Home Economics Department


Sequoia High Schools Home Economics Careers & Technology Department focuses on preparing students for personal and life management, as well as provides a strong foundation for pursuing careers in the Hospitality Industry and Fashion Design. The Foods and Nutrition classes provide students with essential skills and knowledge for living and earning a living.The curriculum is based on the states Career Technical Education standards .



Consumer Home Economic Department Courses

CLOTHING AND FASHION I - Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 (+@)

This is an introductory class where students will learn basic clothing construction, principles of design, use of the sewing machine, textiles and consumer information. Students who complete two semesters may receive college credit for the course as part of the tech prep program.

Suggested Prerequisite: None

CLOTHING AND FASHION II - Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 (+)

This is an advanced class with an emphasis on advanced clothing construction and exploring the fashion industry.

Suggested Prerequisite: Clothing and Fashion I

FOODS AND NUTRITION I - Grades 9, 10, 11, 12 (+)

This course is the introductory study of preparation and nutritional values of food. The following concepts will be explored - nutritional guidelines, food preparation, food safety and sanitation, food purchasing, career exploration.

Suggested Prerequisite: None

FOODS AND NUTRITION II - Grades 10, 11, 12 (+)

This course is the advanced study of preparation and nutritional values of food. The following concepts will be explored - meal planning, foreign cookery, exploring professional cooking and the food service industry.

Suggested Prerequisite: Foods and Nutrition I

NOTE: + = means the course may satisfy the Career Technical Education graduation requirement

@ = means the course qualifies for the Tech Prep program
