General Information

The Library Media Center is located in the main building of Sequoia High School. The Library is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 am through 3:15 pm for normal Library business, including checking in and checking out of textbooks.

The Library has 27 computers with full Internet access and two black and white laserjet printers. Classes may reserve the computers for specific assignment by contacting the Library staff.

From 3:10 pm to 6 pm, Monday through Friday, the Library is open for the Learning Center activities. (On collaboration days, the Learning Center closes at 4 pm.). Tutoring for students is available during this time in the following subjects: English, Math, Social Studies and Spanish.

Textbooks are available upon request and can be checked out individually. Teachers may sign up to bring their classes down to check out textbooks. For more information please contact Ashley Colon.

Access to our Library collections is through a program called Destiny. It can be used to search our holdings only via campus computers. This is an internal system.

Acces to external Library collections may be made off campus. For example, there are links to the Peninsula Library System, the Redwood City Public Library and the Library of Congress.

  The American Memory digital collection at the Library of Congress is a comprehensive source of primary materials on every aspect of American history.

  Calisphere is a large collection of digital resources on California history based on the primary sources of the collections at the University of California Library System

  Grolier includes Encyclopedia Americana, Grolier Multimedia Encyclopedia, and Enciclopedia Cumbre.

  Coverage of Silicon Valley.
• New York Times
  Major resource for world news. For early issues, see Redwood City Public Library online collections.
• San Mateo County Times
  Coverage of local news, sports, arts, etc.

The following collections or categories of materials may be found in the Sequoia Library.

General Reference: Books are used in the Library only.

Main Stacks: The bulk of the books on all subjects. Check out duration is two weeks, with nenewals.

Quick Reads: A section of thin books for easy reading and enjoyment. Fiction and non-fiction.

Magazines: A variety of titles from the Atlantic and New Yorker to Sports Illustrated, Skateboarding, with titles on fashion, travel and exploration, technology, art, world events, etc.

Spanish Books: A section covering all subjects, including fiction, housed in the Fireside Room.

Fiction: Most of the fiction-novels, short stories-are found in the Fireside Room.

Primary Sources: The Library has select items for research. These include a collection of unpublished Civil War letters, local history books and documents, school newspapers and Yearbooks.

  Useful information on making proper attributions in citing sources.
