Medical Clinical I is a year-long required course for students enrolled in Sequoia’s Health Careers Academy (HCA). Medical Clinical I is the junior year HCA (CTE) elective. In this course students will learn about learn about HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act), laws governing healthcare, Workplace Skills, and Workplace Safety. They will also complete FEMA Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) training/certification. 

Students develop of a medical vocabulary that includes medical abbreviations and symbols through the study of the principles of word construction and word analysis, with emphasis on spelling, pronunciation, diagnosis, disease process, pathology and their interrelationship with body systems.

Students work one-on-one with a mentor to gain professional skills, such as resume writing and interview skills, while exploring careers in the health professions.
