Sequoia High School Receives School of Excellence Certification

Sequoia High School was recently notified that the National PTA has identified it as a "School of Excellence". The Parent Involvement Schools of Excellence Certification recognizes schools whose parent involvement programs are based on the National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs. The standards are as follows:

Communicating Communication between home and school is regular, two-way, and meaningful;
Parenting Parenting skills are promoted and supported;
Student Learning Parents play an integral role in assisting student learning;
Volunteering Parents are welcome in the school, and their support and assistance are sought;
School Decision
Making and Advocacy
Parents are full partners in the decisions that affect children and families; and
Collaborating
with Community
Community resources are used to strengthen schools, families, and student learning.

These standards are endorsed by nearly 100 health and education organizations and were created around the six types of parent involvement identified by Joyce L Epstein, Ph.D. at John Hopkins University. National PTA's Schools of Excellence Certification establishes the gold standard for parent involvement practices.
