IB Exam Tips & Rules

IB Exam Tips & Rules

  1. Report to the assigned testing location at 8:00 AM for a morning exam and still to be determined for afternoon exams.

  2. No talking once you enter the testing room even before the exam has begun per IB rules.

  3. Due to exam security reasons and to respect student’s full testing time, all students are released at the same time. If you finish early, you will wait until everyone is released. You cannot be released for another activity. Plan ahead and prioritize your IB exam commitment. Please do not ask to leave early.

  4. No cell phone or electronic devices allowed on a person. All phones must be turned off and stowed in a backpack stored against the wall. If a phone or device is found on a person, that is a breach of IB regulations and must be reported to IB.

  5. No smart watches on your person.

  6. No bags or backpacks allowed at a testing table.

  7. No food.

  8. No beverages besides water. Water is allowed ONLY in a clear, see through bottle and placed on the floor. Rip off the label of a purchased water bottle.

  9. Bring ball point pens only. No gel or liquid ink. Blue or black ink only. A pen will be provided for you if you do not have one.

  10. Bring pencils for an exam with charts and graphs. One will be provided if you need one.

  13. IB does not reschedule exams unless "there is a circumstance of extreme nature that threatens the safety of candidates and/or teachers (for example civil unrest, natural disaster). " (The Conduct of IB Programme Examinations 2014 Section 3.4).There are no make-up exams. If you miss the exam for any reason, you are not able to retake it and your score for that testing component will be a zero. IB will not reschedule because you were home with a cold for example. Do everything you can to get to the exam room.

    1. If you are not feeling well the day of the exam, please inform the lead proctor so we are aware of your condition.

  14. For business management, science and math exams requiring calculators, we will provide one for you. If you prefer to use your own calculator (it must be an approved IB calculator), you must put a tape label on it with your first and last name and the IB subjects you need the calculator for. You must turn it into the IB Office AT LEAST 24 hours (a full day day) before the exam.

  17. BE SURE TO INFORM ALL YOUR TEACHERS IF YOU WILL BE MISSING THEIR CLASS TO TAKE AN EXAM. IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO TELL THEM 2 WEEKS BEFORE THE EXAM AND MAKE UP ANY WORK MISSED!

  18. You will be marked absent from class. We will clear your absences with the Attendance Office. Please note that sometimes it cannot be cleared until the next day so you may receive a phone call home. If it hasn’t been cleared after a week, contact the IB Office

  19. Your results are available online on July 6th. You will receive an envelope during testing with instructions and unique codes to access your scores. If you lose your envelope, you will not be able to check your results until the IB Office opens again in August.

Sending IB Scores to Colleges

  • Your IB exam fee includes the sending of one free IB transcript (with your IB scores) to one institution.
  • Your IB transcript with scores will only need to be sent to the college/ university you are attending.
  • You do not need to send your IB scores to all the colleges you applied to.
  • Seniors sitting for an IB exam(s) will complete a sheet during testing to indicate what institution they are attending. The IB Office will input this institution into IB's system.
  • IB will send the IB transcript in July to the institution you indicated on your form.
  • The IB transcript will include all your IB exams taken in both 11th and 12th grades.
  • Juniors sitting for an IB exam(s) will not complete this college transcript request form until senior year.
  • If seniors change their mind and will be attending a different institution than indicated on the form during testing, please contact Ms McCahon before the school year is over and she will change it with IB. (Example: Got into an institution off a wait-list etc.)
  • If you decide to change your institution after the Sequoia school year is over, you are responsible to request a new IB transcript from the IB website yourself.

Getting IB Results

  • Students can access their results online on July 6th
  • Go to this website to access results: https://candidates.ibo.org/index.cfm?event=authnHandler.showLoginForm
  • You will need your IB Personal Code and PIN number to access your results.
  • All students taking an exam will receive an envelope on their first exam date that includes instructions on how to access their results online including their Personal Code and PIN number.
  • Personal Codes and PIN numbers are specific to each student so if you lose your envelope, you will NOT be able to access your IB exam results until August when the IB Office reopens after summer break.
  • You may contact Magdalena Galvan at mgalvan@seq.org in August to obtain your Personal Code and PIN number. Please do not contact her prior to August as the IB Office is closed during the month of July.
  • Please bring your envelope home and put it somewhere safe so you have it for July 6th.

AP Exams

Sequoia High School does not offer AP exams as we are an IB school. If you are interested in taking an AP exam, you must indepednetly contact another high school who offers that exam and ask if they would be willing to let you sit for the exam on their campus. If looking at other Sequoia Union High School District schools, we suggest contacting the IVP Office as they oversee AP exams.
